Healthy appetite and optimal digestion

Support for healthy digestion, appetite regulation, skin health and healthy liver function. Bitters have been foundational in traditional diets around the world to stimulate digestion, soothe an upset stomach, and help with bloating. Bitter herbs for digestion help to regulate appetite and support the liver, making it easier to assimilate food, increase absorption of nutrients and aiding in natural detoxification. Beyond optimal gut health, herbs for digestion bring a range of health benefits: A healthy digestive system and optimal liver function affects many body systems including our skin - another major organ for clarifying toxins - which enjoys a boost of clarity.

FAQ

Which herbs support digestion?

Bitter plants are some of the best herbs for digestion. Some of our favorite bitter herbs for digestion are dandelion root, burdock root, angelica root, turmeric root and artichoke leaf.

Our bodies prepare for digestion when we taste bitter flavors. Bitter taste receptors signal for the liver to produce bile and the gut to produce stomach acid and enzymes in preparation for food. Because of the way our bodies react to the bitter flavor, digestive bitters can help boost digestion, soothe an upset stomach, help prevent bloating, and increase absorption of nutrients in our food.

What are digestive enzymes? What is the difference between digestive bitters vs. enzymes?

Digestive enzymes are proteins in the body that help break down the food you eat. While supplemental digestive enzymes can be helpful for some, we always recommend taking bitter herbs for digestion to stimulate our body's own natural secretion of enzymes. In many cases digestive bitters can be a very effective way to boost digestive enzymes naturally throughout the entire digestive tract.

How should I take digestive bitters?

Because our bitter taste receptors play such a key role in boosting digestion, Digestive Bitters are one of the few tinctures we recommend always taking directly on the tongue. It’s important to actually taste the bitter flavor of these herbs for digestion!

What is unique about Heilbron Herbs’ digestive bitters?
